Blood

Often the Bible refers to blood, when talking about sacrifice. In Gods eyes the punishment of disobeying God is death (i.e. the spilling of blood resulting in death). So in the Old Testament God commanded his people to sacrifice animals as a substitute for their wrongdoings, as these wrongdoings would lead them to death.  The blood that the animal shed was a sign of mans desire for forgiveness and restored relationship between God and man. The New Testament talks more about ‘The Blood Of Jesus’. This is because Jesus is the final and perfect sacrifice for mans wrongdoings. God sent his only son, who was without any wrong doing, to die on the cross as the final and perfect sacrifice, to take our punishment, so that through him we can be made right with God. It is this act of love that enables us to walk in unhindered relationship with God.
